Rhodium plating is a process of applying a thin layer of rhodium metal onto a metal object to enhance its appearance and durability. It is used in 9kt and 18kt white gold jewellery to give a brighter and more reflective finish. Rhodium plating also helps to prevent tarnishing and other forms of corrosion.
Both 9kt and 18kt white gold have an off grey colour, what makes it look bright white is the rhodium plating.
The rhodium layer applied during the plating process will eventually wear off over time, usually within 1-2 years, depending on factors such as how frequently the jewellery is worn and how it is cared for.
