What makes a diamond cost more or less
Carat weight matters most. For a natural diamond the price per carat itself rises with size — a 2 carat natural round costs about 4.8 times a 1 carat one. Lab-grown prices rise far more gently and level out above about two and a half carats. Prices also step up at popular weights such as 1, 1.5 and 2 carats, so a stone just under one can save money for almost no visible difference — our diamond size chart shows how big each weight looks.
Shape moves the price too — a 1 carat natural oval is about A$6,785 against A$7,460 for a round. The shape tables above compare every shape we sell.
Colour and clarity: the prices on this page are for top grades — the ones we recommend for an engagement ring. A natural diamond a few colour or clarity grades lower costs noticeably less and often looks the same once it is set. To see what that means in real stones, browse every 1 carat natural round available, at every grade, with its own price.
Natural or lab-grown: both are real diamonds, graded the same way. Natural diamonds are rare and priced accordingly; lab-grown diamonds cost a fraction of the price for the same look. Read more about lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds.
What the ring adds
Every price here is for the diamond alone. An engagement ring setting adds to it, depending on the design and the metal. Each of our engagement rings shows its setting price, and our guide to what an engagement ring costs in Australia puts the two together.
How these prices are worked out
Each night we take every diamond available through us at one reference grade — natural E–F colour, VS2 clarity, excellent cut for rounds; lab-grown E colour, VS1 clarity, ideal cut for rounds — group them by shape and weight (1.00–1.05 carats counts as 1 carat, and so on), and publish the middle price of each group. A group needs at least three diamonds before we quote it. The figure is a guide to what a diamond like that costs; the exact price of a particular stone is on its own listing, because no two diamonds are the same.

Common questions
How much does a 1 carat diamond cost in Australia?
A 1 carat round diamond costs about A$7,460 natural or about A$1,512 lab-grown, updated 3 October 2026. That is the typical (median) price of the 162 natural and 348 lab-grown 1 carat rounds available through us at the grade we quote — natural E–F colour, VS2 clarity, excellent cut for rounds; lab-grown E colour, VS1 clarity, ideal cut for rounds. Shape changes the figure: a 1 carat natural oval is about A$6,785. A lower colour or clarity grade costs less again. How much does a 2 carat diamond cost?
A 2 carat round diamond costs about A$35,564 natural or about A$2,087 lab-grown, updated 3 October 2026. Doubling the weight from 1 to 2 carats multiplies a natural diamond's price by about 4.8×, but a lab-grown diamond's by only about 1.4×, because large natural rough is rare and large lab-grown crystals are not.How much cheaper are lab-grown diamonds than natural?
At 1 carat a lab-grown round costs about 80% less than a natural one (A$1,512 against A$7,460), and the gap widens with size: at 2 carats it is about 95% less. Both are real diamonds with the same hardness and sparkle; the difference is origin, rarity and resale value. Why does a diamond's price rise so steeply with carat?
Diamonds are priced per carat, and for natural stones the rate per carat itself climbs with weight, because big rough diamonds are much rarer than small ones. A 1 carat natural round works out at A$7,460 per carat; a 2 carat one at A$17,782 per carat. Prices also step up at popular weights such as 1, 1.5 and 2 carats, so a diamond just under one of them can cost less while looking almost the same size on the hand.Do these diamond prices include GST?
Yes. Every price on this page is the retail price in Australian dollars, GST included, for the loose diamond. The ring setting is extra. Why are these prices different from other price guides?
Many price guides quote one "average" with no grade attached, or convert overseas prices. Ours is the median price of the actual diamonds available through us at one stated grade, worked out every night — the same figure our engagement ring builder uses. Colour, clarity, cut, certificate and exact weight all move a diamond's price, so the price of a particular stone is on its own listing.
