Engagement Rings in Frankston & on the Mornington Peninsula: A Local Buyer's Guide

The short answer: you can choose or design your engagement ring right here on the Peninsula, at a real Frankston workshop where the family who runs the place designs, sets and finishes your ring. Anny's is a family-run manufacturing jeweller, Established in 1990, with an in-house team of around 10. Lab-grown-diamond rings sit at AUD $3,000–$6,000 and natural-diamond rings at AUD $8,000–$30,000. Every diamond is hand-picked; the actual GIA or IGI grading report is identified for the individual stone where available, and natural diamonds are conflict-free. A custom piece takes approximately 3–4 weeks from CAD sign-off, subject to design complexity and workshop capacity (Ready to Ship pieces dispatch from our warehouse in 1–3 business days), and you're always welcome to walk in at 92 Young Street — or email us before visiting the Collins Street showroom in the city for an engagement-ring or wedding-ring consultation. Here's how it all works. For Collins Street, please wait for our email confirmation before coming in.

Frankston sits right at the top of the Peninsula — the gateway where it meets Melbourne's south-east, and our home since 1990. Mount Eliza and Mount Martha are the nearest towns, a short drive north of Mornington itself; Rye, Sorrento and Blairgowrie sit further down, out toward the ocean side. Wherever you're coming from along the corridor, it's the same bench, the same team and the same walk-in hours — and if a visit to Frankston isn't practical, our Melbourne showroom on Collins Street is another option for engagement and wedding rings; email us before visiting. Should you choose a local jeweller who makes the ring, or a chain or online seller?

If you want to talk to the people actually crafting your ring, a local manufacturing jeweller is hard to beat. A fine ring takes a designer, a goldsmith and a diamond setter; in many setups, sales staff take the job in, hand it to a CAD designer, commission a jeweller elsewhere for the metalwork, then send it to a setter in yet another town — slow, and hard to keep at a high standard. At Anny's, your ring is designed, set and finished by an in-house team of around 10 working side by side, steps from the showroom. You speak to the makers, not a sales counter — which is also why our work moves faster.

We also build a little extra metal into our rings (roughly $300–$500 more) so they survive a lifetime of wear rather than thinning out and failing early. We're middle-of-the-market, not the cheapest and not the dearest, with diamonds and gems priced very competitively. You can read more about our custom design and other services and the Anny's story and our family workshop.

Proof we're happy to stand on: a 5.0★ Google rating across more than 400 reviews between our Frankston workshop and Melbourne showroom, where customers describe the craftsmanship as "second to none" and "rare to see these days" (their words, not ours). Behind the bench is Harry Ozkoch, our Master Jeweller, who has spent a lifetime making fine jewellery by hand — and won the People's Choice award at the 2019 JAA Australasian Jewellery Awards for "A Drop Of Love", an 18ct yellow gold and platinum ring set with white and Argyle pink diamonds.

How much does an engagement ring cost in Frankston and across Australia?

At Anny's, an engagement ring's price comes down mostly to the centre stone, then the metal and the design. The bands below are our own first-party figures from the bench, not a market estimate. The gap between them is the stone: a lab-grown diamond is a real diamond, chemically and optically identical to a mined one, and it has become substantially cheaper in recent years. You can compare both on our page for hand-picked diamonds with GIA or IGI grading reports.

Our own bench price bands in AUD — the centre stone drives the gap; spend where it counts.

There's no official government statistic for "the average engagement-ring spend" — the Bureau of Statistics doesn't track it. The most-quoted Australian figure is around AUD $5,854, published by specialist jewellery insurer Q Report and drawn from 2025 wedding-industry survey data rather than its own claims book (Q Report, updated July 2026). Read it as a single national average across every kind of ring — a guide, not a target. Our advice either way: spend where it counts (a well-cut stone and a ring built to last), and don't pay for a name. Browse our engagement ring range to see what your budget can do.

How does a custom engagement ring work, and how long does it take?

A custom ring with us takes approximately 3–4 weeks from CAD sign-off, subject to design complexity and workshop capacity, in three stages: we design your piece in CAD and send you detailed images; we 3D-print a wax model for you to see and approve in person (small changes at the 3D-print stage are usually made within the hour; we'll confirm timing for larger changes); then a specialist casting house casts it, and we set the stones and hand you a finished, one-of-a-kind ring. That "prove it before metal" step is the bit couples relax into most — you're not signing off on a sketch, you're holding a model of the actual ring. You can walk through the whole process on the journey of a custom ring.

How do you know the diamond — and the ring — is good quality?

The single best safeguard is the actual GIA or IGI grading report available for the individual stone. Every diamond we sell is hand-picked, and the report gives an unbiased read on the 4Cs — cut, colour, clarity and carat — the same four things that drive a diamond's price; you can dig into how the cut of a diamond affects its sparkle before you spend.

When you're actually buying, ask to see the report walked through line by line, then, where a laser inscription is present, check that its report number on the stone's girdle matches the grading report — so the diamond you take home is the one that was graded (GIA). IGI reports do the same job, and IGI issues its own lab-grown diamond grading reports.

Behind the bench, our FGAA-accredited gemmologist (Gemmological Association of Australia) helps make sure every stone earns its place. Your finished ring then comes with an Anny's-supplied written valuation signed by Chris Ozkoch on purchases over $3,000. Confirm your insurer's requirements and current PDS before relying on it. The National Council of Jewellery Valuers advises having jewellery "reassessed every two or three years to ensure it is current and meets your insurance requirements" (NCJV).

What questions should you ask a local jeweller before buying an engagement ring?

A few good questions separate a maker from a middleman, and a documented stone from a risky one:

  1. Who designs, sets and finishes the ring — and do they all work here? You want the people crafting your ring, not a counter that sends every stage out.
  2. Can I see the actual GIA or IGI grading report for this individual diamond? Only consider stones with the available grading report (GIA).
  3. Can you show me the grading report and, where present, the matching laser inscription? This is the inscription-matching check covered above — ask to see it done where an inscription is present (GIA).
  4. Can I hand-pick the stone? Seeing the actual diamond beats choosing from a photo.
  5. What's the turnaround, and how are design revisions handled?
  6. Do you provide a valuation for insurance, and how often should I revalue? A good jeweller will set you up at handover (revaluing timeline as above).
  7. What are my repair, replace and refund rights, and what exactly is returnable? Under Australian Consumer Law, businesses can't use store policies to deny your consumer guarantees (ACCC).
  8. How do you handle resizing and after-care? A good jeweller looks after the ring for the long haul, not just the sale.

On that last point about returns: it's worth knowing exactly what can come back. Our 7-Day Diamond Return Program applies to loose diamonds from select suppliers — you have seven days from the stone's arrival to view it in person and may return it in its original condition for a refund of the deposit minus a $150 return fee. It's a specific viewing program, not a blanket "free returns" policy, and it sits on top of your consumer guarantees, never instead of them.

Frequently asked questions

Do you make wedding bands to match the engagement ring?

Yes — matching wedding bands are designed and finished in-house alongside your engagement ring so the two sit together properly. Because the same team makes both, we can shape the band to your ring's profile and stones rather than forcing a stock band to fit.

Can you make a sapphire or ruby engagement ring instead of a diamond?

Absolutely — coloured-gemstone engagement rings are a genuine specialty of ours, and we particularly love working with sapphire and ruby. A coloured centre stone gives you a distinctive ring, often at a different price point to diamond, and our gemmologist helps you choose a stone that will wear well. See our coloured-gemstone engagement rings for ideas.

Do you resize or repair rings you didn't make?

Yes. Repairs are a big part of our workshop, including jobs other jewellers turn away — resizing, prong retipping, stone replacement, polishing and chain repairs, done in-house at Frankston, typically in 1–7 business days.

How can I find my partner's ring size discreetly?

Borrow a ring they already wear on the correct finger and have us measure it, or trace the inside circle and bring that in. Australia uses the A–Z letter system (one letter is about 1.25mm of inside circumference), and getting close then resizing after the proposal is completely normal (Wikipedia, "Ring size").

Do I need to insure the ring before I take it home?

At handover, Anny's can provide a written valuation signed by Chris Ozkoch. Take clear photos and ask your insurer whether it meets the current PDS and cover requirements before relying on it; it does not itself guarantee cover or a claim outcome.

What metals can I choose for my engagement ring?

We work in 9ct, 14ct and 18ct gold — in yellow, white and rose — plus platinum. As a guide, 18ct gold is 75% pure gold (750 parts per thousand) and 9ct is 37.5% (375) (World Gold Council), while platinum for fine jewellery is the 950 standard — around 95% pure. We'll talk you through which suits your stone, your budget and how the ring will be worn.
